My Story

2003

In the beginning...

I started my training contract in London as a Corporate Tax adviser for Smith & Williamson, one of the UK’s Top 10 accountancy firms. After qualifying as an ACA (Associate Chartered Accountant) with the ICAEW, I moved to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to continue my career in International Corporate Tax.

2009

My breakthrough...

I was promoted to Manager in the International Corporate Tax team and nominated as a regional specialist in PwC’s Process Improvement advisory group. I started leading client meetings, managing cross-border projects, and training both clients and staff — all in the language of international business.

2012

Then everything changed...

I left corporate life to start my own business, advising online start-ups and founders. I took on the roles of Finance Director, Consultant, and CEO for some of my clients, handling everything from business setup to forecasting, process flow setup and documenting to monthly and annual reporting.

2018

Becoming an English coach...

After 15 years in finance, I felt ready to follow another passion — teaching. I completed the internationally-recognised CELTA (with the highest grade: Pass A) and began teaching English full-time. Over 6,000 hours of teaching later, I’d worked with students from age 5 to 85, from beginners to proficiency, including Business English General English and Cambridge exam preparation. I also became an official speaking examiner for Cambridge English exams.

2024

The moment of frustration (and innovation)...

After years of seeing my Business English students — especially Finance professionals — struggle with courses that didn’t meet their needs, I realised I had to build a better solution. Traditional classroom learning didn’t allow flexibility for students to study at their own speed and focus on their specific needs. Coursebooks were full of irrelevant vocabulary. Students wanted to be more confident in emails, meetings, and systems… but we were wasting time talking about travel.

From this, Fluent Finance English was born...

A series of self-study and guided courses designed to finally give serious professionals what they really need: the vocabulary, tone, pronunciation, and confidence to work fluently in English.
